Calling all multipotentialites, scanners, polymaths, and Renaissance souls. I created this post to share about my experiences with creating a career with my many passions.
In this post, I share my journey of burning out in traditional jobs, chasing passions that didn’t always “make sense,” and finally discovering the concept of being a multipotentialite — someone with too many passions to choose just one.
I’ll take you behind the scenes of how I strung together spirituality, art, design, storytelling, and healing into my business Art Funky. If you’ve ever felt like you have no idea what you want to be “when you grow up,” this video is for you.
Topics covered:
* Why our culture wrongly ties worth to careers
* My struggles with burnout & identity
* Finding clarity
* What it means to live as a multipotentialite
* How spirituality became my business umbrella
If you’re tired of trying to fit into one box — know this: your many passions aren’t a flaw. They’re the strings that create the song of your life.

The Comment That Stuck With Me
Back during the pandemic, I was in a Zoom meeting for a public speaking organization I belong to. One member had taken it upon himself to introduce everyone by their career:
-
“You’re a doctor.”
-
“You’re in real estate.”
-
“You’re in sales.”
-
“You’re a veteran.”
Then he got to me. He paused.
“You…”
“…I don’t know WHAT you do.”
Such disdain!
At the time, he wasn’t entirely wrong. I worked part-time in digital marketing, a field I was good at, and validated for it. But I was also trying to grow a meditation business that never really took off. I didn’t fit neatly into a single box. And in a society that demands identity through job titles, that made me… undefinable.
Our Culture’s Obsession With “What Do You Do?”
Our culture is obsessed with the question, “So, what do you do?” It’s usually the first thing people ask once they know your name But tying worth to a career title was something I always found disturbing.
It’s no wonder so many people feel lost when they retire — if your identity is tied to your job, then who are you without it?
The Personal Struggle of Being “Too Much”
I’ve always done a lot of things.
I could never define myself in just one way.
By my early 30s, I realized I couldn’t stick with one full-time job for more than two years before burning out — before feeling like I was dying inside.
Since 2013, I’ve pieced together part-time jobs, with a few stints of full-time work. In 2022, I finally went all in and founded my little company, Art Funky. I quit everything else, and painted full-time for six months.
But here’s the thing: even painting full-time burned me out. I needed variety. I added digital marketing and web design back into the mix. And yet… something was still missing.
Discovering Multipotentiality
That’s when I stumbled upon books written for people like me: multipotentialites, scanners, Renaissance souls, polymaths — people with too many passions to choose just one.
I started researching “Renaissance businesses” — companies that unify different offerings under one central theme. Think about a famous tech company: once, they only made clunky computers. Now they create phones, watches, tablets, payment systems, even TV platforms. Completely different products — yet unified under a single vision.
I wanted that for myself. But how could I possibly tie together web design, meditation, Reiki, tarot, piano, storytelling, hiking, cats, painting, and drawing under one umbrella?
I didn’t know. A conundrum it was. Something I chewed on for a long time.
So I consulted with a recent phenomenon of our time: an AI bot.
The Surprising Answer
That soulless robot came up with an almost intuitive answer! One that changed everything and propelled me to pivot my business during the summer of 2025.
The overarching theme? Spirituality.
And suddenly, everything clicked. My meditation teaching, Reiki and chakra healing certifications, my art, my cinematic videography, etc. — it all fit under that one umbrella.
Now my business tagline is:
Where visual design meets inner alchemy.
Want a website? Great. Let me do a business tarot card reading to illuminate any blind spots in your business acumen. Don’t need design? I can guide you through chakra healing, art as meditation, or even how to eat in a way that supports your energy.
Why This Matters (Maybe for You, Too)
I share this because I know I’m not alone.
Some of you reading this die a little inside at the thought of doing only one thing forever. You’ve probably been told:
-
“You need to focus.”
-
“You’re flaky.”
-
“You’re all over the place.”
-
“You’re too much.”
Those labels have followed me my whole life.
But here’s the truth: it’s okay to have a thousand interests. You can weave them together. You can build a life, a business, and a purpose around all of it.
Closing Thought
You’ve heard the old saying:
A Jack (Jill) of all trades is a master of none.
But most people leave out the second half and it changes the meaning:
“…but oftentimes better than a master of one.”
All my interests? They’re the are the strings. Together they create the melody that is my life.
