During stressful times (there's a lot going on in the world, no?), it's nice to have something like a guided meditation to bring you out of that mental headspace and back into the body, where you can feel safer and more grounded.

Root Chakra At a Glance

The root chakra sits at the base of the spine, and can get knocked out of balance any time you experience stressful events, spend too much time sitting, encounter money worries, or feel fearful. It's also a good one to balance if you ever feel like you're wandering aimlessly without a solid sense of purpose.

Balancing this energy center is the antidote to feeling “BLAH.” The root chakra is the one to balance before any others because every chakra energy center above it metaphorically “rests” on this foundation.

How this Mandala Meditation Works

This Root Chakra Mandala meditation is a gentle, trauma-sensitive guided meditation with breathwork, a body scan, visualization, and affirmations. You can listen to this meditation any time you need to feel rooted, safe, and need an anchor.

I love using mandalas as a way to center. When you feel grounded, you feel centered. I included a time-lapse of a root chakra mandala to visually support that return to center.

I kept this meditation simple: I open with an explanation of some grounding meditation tools I use, including a singing bowl tuned to a low “C” note that feels earthy and steady. After that, I share some gentle tips for meditation, and then the mandala timelapse begins.

You’ll see the mandala unfold forward, then reverse back to the beginning. I repeat this cycle several times before resting on a still image of the completed mandala.
